GRATITUDE is a paper sculpture exploring the practice of daily thankfulness through repetition, color, and time. The scrap-like pattern of the sculpture is made of hand spun painted paper, newspaper, and found paper materials. Each scrap of paper was delicately hand-spun into thread and then gently and repetitively added to the sculpture using a crochet hook.

This piece is a lesson in obedience. I found this sculpture to parallel my personal journey of exploring the bounty that comes from practicing daily gratitude in all circumstances.

Paper as a material is delicate but strong. The challenge was figuring how to work with each type of paper to create the same result, thread. Through repetition, persistence, and time the sculpture grew and became more full and unexpectedly patterned.

This piece will be on display at Blue Print Gallery in Dallas, TX in July 2023.
